Sizes are true-to-size for kids who are average on the pediatric growth charts. This means you don't need to order up to get a good fit (if your child is 12 mos. old, then order size 12 mos. instead of ordering up to size 18 mos. like you normally would). Also, it is common for a child to be able to wear a garment past the weights listed below (particulary for dresses and and tees). All garments through 4T are sized to fit over cloth diapers.

Length refers to the length of the shoe sole. Please allow 1/2" wiggle room for your child's feet. Because there is no universal size chart for children's shoes, the most important reference when choosing a size is the length of your child's foot. Width refers to the width of the shoe sole. Lapsaky garments are sized with two considerations: fabric shrinkage and growing room. Organic cottons are minimally processed (even when low-impact dyed), so shrinkage is higher than what you might expect. When you receive your clothing, you might at first think it is too big and decide to return for a smaller size. We encourage you to trust our research; wash and dry garments and try on your child again-we are certain you will decide they are sized just right, with the additional allowance for growth within a size.
Sizing is generous to allow your child to wear each garment at least thru end of size range. For example, if your baby is of average HEIGHT, he/she will fit in the 3-6 month size until 6 months old, or a little longer. Don't buy a 3-6 month size for a newborn, or a 3T for a 2 year old, it will be really big (unless your child is above average for height or weight)!

If you are at the end of your pregnancy or have just had your baby, your above-the-bust measurements may be 1"-2" larger than usual.

Chubby Feet - Chubby Ankles
If your child has extra wide feet or a high instep, be sure to order wide sizes. When Soft Star makes a wider shoe, they increase the width of the sole, the height of the instep and the length of the elastic, if applicable. However, if the elastic is still too tight when you receive it, please let us know and we will fix it for you free of charge. If you have an especially hard foot to fit, please mail or fax us a tracing of your child's foot and we will size to it.

For most accurate measurement, have your child stand with full weight on a piece of paper. Mark toe and heel of the foot with your pencil straight up and down, then measure the longest distance between the toe and the heel. Use the chart to match the measurement to the appropriate size.

Shrinkage is usually between 3%-5% in length and less in the width. Because colored tees are garment-dyed, they run about 1/2 a size smaller than the undyed natural tees, but will not shrink after washing.
